The best piece of content a business can post to social media is video. This can be intimidating to some content creators who have yet to dabble in video marketing, but you can easily do it yourself.
The best way to learn is to be hands on! If you are newer to social media management, I suggest testing out content on your personal accounts before jumping onto your brand page.
Here are 6 reasons why you should invest in video marketing ASAP.
#1) VIDEO CREATION IS AFFORDABLE
Over the past year or two we are seeing a spike in engagement from content created from a consumer standpoint. We see that consumers prefer to consume and engage with content that feels & looks like it was created from a friend.
You will notice many corporate brands have even taken advantage of this trend despite having huge budgets. In “sponsored” posts you will see more posts that look like a friend with a camera phone and basic editing skills posted the video. I also see a surplus of “selfie” video ads.
You don’t need to spend thousands on a production company for video. Just use your smartphone! If you prefer DIY, there are so many free or low-cost options that aid in content creation. Check out Adobe Premiere (IOS / Desktop), Quik (Android / IOS), iMovie (IOS), and FilmoraGo (Android / IOS).
Want to start small? Canva is a free graphic design platform that also offers video friendly design elements. You can simply “animate” your graphic design in Canva and download it as a MP4. Canva also has tons of video templates to choose from.
TIP: When shooting video try to shoot in 4k but HD will work also. Take several shots in vertical and horizontal, close up and far, and at different angles. Also, consider 4k support when deciding on editing software.
#2) VIDEO IS ATTENTION GRABBING
Video is a scroll stopper. Unlike a photo, you can grab a consumer’s attention within the first few seconds and hook them to watch more. For my clients, and most businesses, video is the number one most engaging piece of content.
Usually, scrollers spend just over 1 second per post. When you are scrolling your personal feed test this theory. According to Facebook, videos can keep a person’s attention five times longer than a static image on Facebook and Instagram.
TIP: When filming or creating content try to condense the video into quick snippets that keep the viewer’s attention. When I attended Facebook’s live seminar about video ads on 5.25.21 they stated the best length for video is under 6 seconds. This is also the ideal length for Facebook In Stream videos. Bonus points if you can get your branding mentioned in the first 1-3 seconds.
#3) VIEWS LEAD TO MORE ENGAGEMENT
Once you have someone’s attention, the longer a viewer engages or watches the video the more likely Facebook will show it to more people. If Facebook deems it as “valuable content” your exposure will increase which will ultimately increase the likelihood of more engagement such as shares.
#4) YOU CAN USE YOUR VIDEO EVERYWHERE
Remember when I offered the tip of taking several different shots? This is so you can use the video on multiple platforms. With most social platforms favoring video and even offering better results why not get your money’s worth and place it all over! Greater reach means a greater opportunity to see a return on your investment. Video specs can be slightly reformatted to be placed on several platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube, TikTok, and Twitter.
TIP: You can also upload your video to your website to make the web crawlers happy. Also try posting at least once per month to your Google listing.
#5) GOOGLE SEARCH OPTIMIZATION
Google loves videos. Heck, all social media platforms love videos too! Videos keep people on your website longer. The longer people stay on your website, the more Google notices! If you have embedded videos on your website your chances of showing up higher in organic search results will increase.
TIP: Use your video tags on YouTube and Facebook to help boost your video in search results.
#6) VIDEO CAN HUMANIZE & BUILD TRUST
By showcasing the faces behind the brand or showing your business solving problems for clients, consumers are more likely to form an emotional connection with your brand. People work with people. Content marketing is based on brand trust and creating long term relationships. Videos allow people to get to know you, your brand, and your services.
TIP: If you are a business that relies on trust, think about customer reviews and testimonials. Or focusing on before and after visuals. Maybe share your company culture, employees, and mission statement. Tell a story! Or get personal. For myself and other clients who are the “face” of their brand, I see the best engagement and reach from showcasing adventures and happenings. This is true for video or photography in most cases.
